Free places in school nurseries

School nursery classes usually accept children from the term after their 3rd birthday. Some school nurseries may only have one intake per year in September. If a child gets all their free hours in a school nursery class, they cannot claim free hours anywhere else.

A place in the school nursery does not mean you automatically get a place in the school reception class.

From the September after their 4th birthday, your child can attend a school reception class. You need to apply for this place through Trafford's central school admissions process. See school admissions for more information.

How do I apply?

There is no central application system for school nursery places in Trafford. Schools manage their own application system and you should check any specific admission criteria they use. To apply for a place please contact the school and they will inform you of their application process. Find a school nursery.

Parents must also complete a parent declaration form to inform the local authority where they want to claim their free hours. When the declaration form has been submitted parents will automatically receive an email which incluldes a copy of the form. This email should be shown to your provider.
