Trafford Civic Quarter Masterplan

Take 120 acres of land, an iconic Town Hall building, a world class sporting venue, a new ground-breaking higher education institution, and you have all the makings of living, breathing Civic Quarter for everyone – a shared public space that is a pleasure to spend time in, whether you live, work or play here.

Please help us create a vision for the Trafford Civic Quarter that is right for everyone in Trafford – and right for you.

This public space is intended to work with the existing fabric of the area and will bring together business, sport, education, digital expertise, music, civic matters, events and festivals.

The Civic Quarter will showcase Trafford's history while looking to the future. It will be the heart of Trafford and a key destination in Greater Manchester, due to iconic buildings such as Trafford Town Hall and international sporting venue Lancashire Cricket Club. It will also be the home of the proposed University Academy ’92 scheduled to open in September 2019 as well as potentially incorporating a ‘processional route’, connecting the Civic Quarter to Old Trafford football stadium.

The Council has identified the Civic Quarter as pivotal in the regeneration of the surrounding area, in particular the regeneration of Stretford and Old Trafford. Challenges exist – some under-utilised buildings, a busy road that currently divides the space – but with improvements to public spaces and infrastructure and the right level of investment, these challenges can be overcome.

We’d like you to use your imagination, your experience of this area, your knowledge of other public squares – to tell us what you’d like to see, what’s important to you, to ask us questions.
