Christmas recycling

Will you be naughty or nice this Christmas?

This Christmas, we are encouraging householders to be ‘nice’ and get on Santa’s good list by recycling the right type of paper and card in your recycling bin at home.

The naughty list

You’ll be on the naughty list if you put any of the following things in your paper and card recycling bin:

  • Plastics
  • Food
  • Electricals
  • Clothing
  • Nappies
  • Polystyrene

Nappies, polystyrene and all plastics (except plastic bottles) can go in your general waste bin, which is used to create green electricity. Electronic items and clothing can be taken to your local Recycling Centre. Recycle all your food waste in your green recycling bin. It is made into compost.

The nice list

You’ll have a chance to get on the nice list if you put all of the following items in:

  • newspapers and magazines
  • cardboard boxes
  • cardboard packing from presents and food
  • paper wrapping paper
  • Christmas cards (tear off any glitter)

Recycling only the right things in your bins is really important so that it can be turned into new products, like a new newspaper or cardboard box.
